‘International Cricket is lacking of stars’

Lastnewsbd, 9th October, Dhaka: In an interview with BBC Radio, the hard hitter English batsman expressed his concern about dying number of entertainers in world cricket. “I really struggle to see entertainers, they’re lacking in the game,” Pietersen said. But otherwise pure entertainers and superstars are not in the game and that’s a big worry,” he added. But Pietersen said Indian skipper Virat Kohli is a ‘stand-out’ performer among all in international cricket at present. “Maybe it’s a generational thing but the sad part is that quite a few of those former players are commentating but they are not in the game of cricket,” the 38-year-old said. “You want those superstars attached to franchises, national sides and academies so that youngsters get inspired to be those people,” he continued. “They (former stars) have to get paid more because the money for commentary, which is a pretty easy gig, is fairly good,” he stated. “The boards have that money and they maybe need to get their fingers in their pockets,” he added. The South African borne Pietersen is fifth in England’s all-time list of Test run-scorers. He scored 8,181 runs playing 104 matches for England before bid adieu to international cricket earlier this year. He registered 23 hundreds beside his name. Kevin Pietersen also scored 4,440 runs featuring in 136 limited over matches for his country. He has 9 ODI hundreds. The flamboyant batsman also gathered more than a thousand runs in the shortest format of the game. Former England star Kevin Pietersen wearied saying at present international cricket is lacking of ‘superstars’.
