The Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) successfully concluded three concurrent events – the ACMA EV Summit and Exhibition, the Auto Technology Partnership Summit and Expo (ATPSE) and i-Auto Connect, ACMA’s flagship reverse buyers and sellers meet. The two-day extravaganza was held on March 23 and 24, 2022 at the Greater Noida Expo Centre. The event witnessed a congregation of thought leaders, industry representatives and domestic component manufacturers from both traditional as well as the electric vehicle (EV) sectors.

Inaugurating the event, Sunjay Kapur said: “The entire automotive industry is undergoing a paradigm shift as we transform into a mobility industry. The phenomenal increase in the sales of electric vehicles in India in the current financial year indicates that EVs have clearly caught the imagination of people. Whilst the government policies have been very conducive towards adoption of EVs, issues such as range anxiety, standardisation of battery chargers, and acquisition cost of EVs and ease of financing also need to be addressed to create a beneficial ecosystem. Going forward, OEMs, components manufacturers and start-ups will need to work closely together to co-create and develop products from an early stage.”

“We will also need to invest heavily in green energy as it will be one of the biggest opportunities for the industry,” he added. Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. Reji Mathai commented: “I thank ACMA for creating this opportunity to bring stakeholders of the EV ecosystem to collaborate for the growth of the e-mobility industry. The government is creating the best testing facility for EV vehicles while building up a robust charging infrastructure, fast charging options and standardisation in the battery system. In addition, our ecosystem will allow innovations and implementation of advanced technology in batteries of electric vehicles.”

“We are also providing adequate support to the start-ups and MSMEs working in the EV space through various platforms. The government is also pushing for an accelerator programme where new areas of development in the EV space can be supported,” he added. Sharing her views on the changing automotive landscape, Mahua Acharya said, “This is the first time in history when there is so much optimism and engagement in the EV industry. The demand for EV in the last 18 months has been unprecedented and to support the industry the government is committed to work closely with ACMA, OEMs and component suppliers.”

Commenting on the event, Vinnie Mehta said: “We are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for the automobile sector, both in the domestic and the external markets. ACMA is happy to provide a platform to the automotive components industry to showcase progressive developments, research and engineering excellence. We are excited to witness the rapid transformation in the automotive component industry in India as it strives to stay relevant. We look forward to closely working with all the relevant stakeholders towards building a safer, cleaner, and a more technologically advanced automotive ecosystem in the country.”
