Yes, We Can

।।Azizul Islam Bhuiyan।।

It is the tragic tale of only 24 days ago on 4 May,  our Tigers backed home from Sri Lanka  with great exasperation and frustration as they lost the 2-match International Test Cricket series with  Sri Lanka by 1-0.  As the Tigers  reached the Shahajal al International Air Port as a defeated team, nobody was at the arrival lounge with bouquets or even a stick of tube-rose (Rojonigondha) to greet them . No cricket fans were there to raise welcome sounds in honour of our great heroes. With broken hearts, the tigers silently disappeared from the airport to their respective destinations.

Just then competitions started in the social media on criticizing our tigers for being washed-out by Sri Lankan lions. Those who have no records of any involvement with cricket in their fourteenth generations or those who have had ever any touch with a round-shape cricket ball , or who cannot distinguish between a pace ball or spin ball or know the meaning of reverse sweep , over night turned into Cricket authority. They started spreading venoms against our tigers that have many distinguished records in the cricket world. Some were telling why those guys were sent to Colombo – why they had gone there, for enjoying luxurious days in the five star hotels or shopping in posh selling centers and malls?  Some even marching few steps forward, held our respected Prime Minister responsible saying that by giving luxurious flats, cars, residential plots, gorgeous civic receptions, she made the tigers to suffer from self-complacence,  vanity and pride.

On the other hand, some people dragged the BCCI in the scene and alleged that because of corruption, nepotism, backbiting and jealousy among rank and file of this national body, our cricket is going to be doomed. This is absolutely untrue and inappropriate comments centering the Sri Lanka performances of our cricket team.

It is a common saying in the cricket arena that “Cricket is a game of sweet and sour uncertainty”. There are records of over 1000 international cricket matches in which spectators had to wait  till the last ball to know the fate of the game. According to record books,  in international test match, the lowest run records is – New Zealand- 26, South Africa-30,  Australia – 36, India -36, Ireland-38, New Zealand-42 etc. While the lowest records of run in One Day International (ODI)  is Zimbabwe-35, U.S.A.- 35, Canada-36, Sri Lanka- 38, Pakistan-43, India 54, West Indies -54. In such a situation, it is our consolation, the highest degree of consolations that our tigers had not to leave any cricket grounds with such humiliating records.
As I earlier said that cricket means an uncertain game. Nobody could ever predict with authority that in this match that team will win. But those who had seen the last test matches between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka with deep attention and critical view would surely agree that the tigers lost broth the matches’ fort sheer misfortune. It was not any lack on their part but mere   fate accomplices. Such fate of destiny could happen for any cricket team in the world. No particular team should be cursed or blamed for any defeat in a cricket encounter.

*******-There is a common saying – “Tit-for Tat”. This time the Tigers making Sri Lankans lions white washed that we popularly call “Bangla Wash” (or by winning ODI series) has taken  due revenge. ******By winning this series, Bangladesh elevated to the top position of ICC World Cup Supper League with 50 points by winning five matches.  While , England, the incumbent World Cup Champion dropped to number two position with 40 points by winning four matches. The covetous World Cup Cricket Championship Trophy is knocking at our doors. It is now the question of date and time.

Let the world realize, let the cricket world see and let the heroic people of Bangladesh utter with pride and jubilant that “Yes We Can”.
