45th Death Anniversary of Bangabandhu It is time for Taking Oath, not Grief

The history of mankind had stalled one more time again on the stairs of 32 Dhanmondi when the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with his family was assassinated in the hands of killers at the black night of August 15 of 1975. Heritage and tale of glory of the Bangalees from time immemorial had fallen flat on its face under the black machineguns of the killers. Right after this political change, a blatant and shameless rehearsal of twisting the history had begun in the country. The whole nation was covered with the veil of self-fraudulent. All of those in the history that relate to our prides, achievements and accomplishments had been buried in the coffin of deceptions. Values and philosophies of our dignified War of Liberation had been sent to exile. A failed attempt had been carried out to wipe out the national heroes especially the legendary leader of the War of Liberation the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu from the pages of the history by assassinating character. On the other hand, attempts were made to coronate some villains in the history posing as national heroes. And to write this abysmal history a section of hired intellectuals were appointed. But the history is very unkind and unforgiving. Everything which is not in line with the thoughts and views of the people of the country and is not true at all has become lost from the life of the state and the society without being noticed. The reason is that history cannot be written with lies. There is no place of falsehood in the history. Those who wanted to be the heroes of the nation, e.g. proclaimer of the independence by killing Bangabandhu with his family have been thrown to the garbage of the history. And our national heroes along with our legendary leader the Father of the Nation have found place in the hearts of the people where they would be worshipped forever.

The brutal death of the Father of the Nation along with his family is agonizing to us. The brutal killing of the Father of the Nation has belittled us as a nation before the international communities and disgraced us in the history of the civilization of mankind. However, it is our self-consolation that through trial we have able to award death penalty to the killers of Bangabandhu. Through this we have able to save the nation at least a bit from the indemnity of the history. However, for the sake of the history today we have to seek out the real killers of the Bangabandhu. Who had controlled the mechanism of the August 15 incident hiding behind the curtain? Who had rehabilitated the killers of Bangabandhu in the politics of Bangladesh by appointing in different vital state portfolios and inviting war criminals from overseas? Who was or were the main beneficiary of the killing of Bangabandhu?
It has been said very simply that some aberrated members of the army encouraged by the defeated enemy in the War of Liberation in 1971 and imperialists had carried out this atrocious killing of the contemporary world. Hoverer, the history of the last four decades has proved that there is no scope to explain the issue through such simplified equation. The root of this incident is embedded far far deep. This brutal assassination had not been carried out to eliminate one political leader or his family. The target of this was to kill a nation and to wipe out an independent sovereign country from the world map. Although Bangladesh had not been wiped out from the world map, the nation has become orphan. If survived, Bangabandhu could be in the lead not only of Bangladesh, in the helm of the world leadership. Bangabandhu would be in the procession of renowned world leaders like Nelson Mandela and Fidel Castro. Killers of 1975 had not diminished that golden possibility only rather stamped a mark on the forehead of the Bangalee nation that it is bearing for the last four decades. Although the burden of our disgrace from the history of the mankind has been lightened a bit through the realization of death penalty of the self-claimed killers of the Father of the Nation, we have to bear the grief of the death of the Father of the Nation along with his family from generation to generation.
We do not have to learn by reading books of political science that how important the leadership of a nation is in protecting independence and sovereignty of a nation, to ensure advancement and development of a nation, and for the sake of stance keeping the head high in the world arena. The struggling life of the Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujib is the book of political science for us. We know that “A small country beside a vast country is hardly sovereign”. Only Cuba is the exception. Cuba is standing tall as an independent sovereign country residing in the stomach of vast USA. The only reason of that is their legendary leader Fidel Castro. The Almighty Allah had given us such Fidel Castro also for whom allied force had to leave our beloved motherland within less than only three months. It was possible to resolve numerous unresolved problems including the sharing of the water of the Ganges, land border dispute, etc through the Indira-Mujib Agreement with our vast neighbor India. As Bangabandhu was there, we were not small though we are a small country.

By liberating the country through the War of Liberation we had proved that how powerful the leadership of Bangabandhu was. How magical it was! The Father of the Nation was made prisoner in the Loyalpur Prison after taken to West Pakistan following the apprehension on the black night of 25 March. Bangabandhu led the nation from the dark cell of the prisoner and the whole nation participated in the war following the broad call of Bangabandhu. While describing the valor and success of the valiant freedom fighters it was said in the world media that “Imprisoned Mujib is million times powerful than free Mujib”. And for that we had able to liberate the country within just nine months defeating the Pakistani force which was one of the major and powerful armed forces of the world though we had no tank, bombers, war ships and other war related machineries.
Now, let us look at the dark from the light. When the tragedy of August 15 took away Bangabandhu from us then we had everything – cabinet, parliament, governor, Awami League, Jubo League (youth wing of Awami League), Chattra League (student wing of Awami League), Sramik League (labor wing of Awami League), armed forces, air force, navy, Rakkhi Bahini (para-military force), police, tank, bombers – everything. We did not have the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu only. As we did not have Bangabandhu, we had to surrender before the war began – we had to accept the defeat without war. If Bangabandhu was taken prisoner that day instead of killing him then millions of people would have come out on the streets and sacrificed their lives under the wheels of tanks of the killers and would have liberated the Father of the Nation. But when people, being ceased mentally, heard that Bangabandhu was no more then there was no such leader in the country for whom people would come out on streets and sacrifice their lives. There was no such leader who would call people to protest and resist let alone fight.
To reach the present point in time Awami League has to pass 65 winters and springs. This long path by Awami League was not smooth always rather it was full of thorns, brutal and wild beasts. This celebrated political party is the witness of numerous ups and downs of the history. After the liberation of the country, the best task that the Awami League had done was to coronate the daughter of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Hasina into the leadership. Sheikh Hasina is not only the successor of the blood of Bangabandhu; she is the successor of the ideals of Bangabandhu as well. If we look at floating oceanic dream like eyes of Sheikh Hasina, image of the Bangabandhu become live before the nation. A Bangalee with wide posture with white panjabi and pajama (local dress) and black Mujib coat and a brown shawl on his neck along with back-brushed hair and wide face structure. If we look at the gentle palm of the soft hands of Sheikh Hasina then it reminds us the index-finger of Bangabandhu; waving of which controlled the millions of people of this country like the Pied Piper of Hamelin – sometimes at the Racecourse Ground, sometimes at Paltan, sometimes at the Ground of Armanitola and sometimes at the Bahadur Shah Park. As the leadership of the Awami League, i.e. the nation was bestowed on Sheikh Hasina, the pro-war of liberation forces managed to get the scope of running the state machinery after 21 years. Otherwise who knows how many decades is the nation to be repressed under the anti-liberation forces?

Now I want to use some nostalgic words here. It was imprinted in Bangabandhu that someday the responsibility of making the lot of the country would be bestowed on the hands of his beloved daughter. Bangabandhu in his historic address of March 7 had said, “This time the struggle is the struggle for freedom – this time the struggle is the struggle for independence”. Bangabandhu had completed the struggle for independence successfully. He had given us an independent country, national flag and national anthem. And he had left the tough struggle for freedom for his daughter Sheikh Hasina. In the mean time, Jononetri (leader of the people) Sheikh Hasina has declared Digital Bangladesh, Vision 2021 and Developed Bangladesh 2041. This is the struggle for freedom as declared by Bangabandhu – this is the Sonar Bangla, dream of Bangabandhu. In 1971, responding to the call of Bangabandhu three million people had sacrificed their lives and 200,000 mothers and sisters had lost their sanctity to liberate the country. Now another war is approaching before us. This war is dedicated to the freedom of ours. We have to start journey in new Digital Bangladesh watching us in the mirror of Vision 2021 to Developed Bangladesh of 2041 riding the horse with new outfit and the spear of sun. If requires we would take millions of dead bodies like the 1971 on our shoulders and even then we will be the followers of the fiery-oath to the “struggle for freedom”. Instead of grief, let this the illuminated oath of ours on the anniversary of the Father of the Nation.
