Steve Rhodes condemns point system of ongoing series

The point system of the ongoing tri-nation series are a team can earn a maximum of five points from a win, if they manage to get an extra bonus point awarded for big margins of victory besides with the four points accorded for a victory. Participating teams are given two points each in the event of an abandoned game. In addition, the system has not impressed the head coach of Bangladesh Steve Rhodes as he criticized after the match was called off. “The system is best for some hot countries in international cricket. In Scotland, Ireland and England in May you got a rained off games and side maybe lose out a little bit in rained off games. Maybe that needs looking at. If we had won this game it would have been easier to play some of these guys but we got only two points for the no results and it may effect for the opportunities for the guys and that’s a shame.” “Little bit disappointed [because] we did feel this was the game that we really wanted to win as it would put us in a very strong position. But we can do nothing about and so mixed feelings because I really wanted more points than two,” he added.

Bangladesh head coach Steve Rhodes criticized the point rules of the ongoing tri-nation series despite hanging on top of the table. The third match between Ireland and Bangladesh washed out without a ball being bowled due to rain. Bangladesh are now at top of the table with six points as both the teams are awarded 2 points for no result. Fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman had a disastrous day against Windies in their opening game and the head coach desperately wanted to look him in the second game. However, he also said that he is not concerned for the performance in the last game. “I am not concerned. I really think he is a wonderful one-day bowler. Not long ago he was ranked in the top-five. We haven’t got many of our Bangladesh bowlers ranked among five in the world.” “Sometimes he [Mustafizur] has lacked a bit of pace. But I was quite pleased there were few balls in the middle overs when he really got through to the wicket keeper Mushy [Rahim] and he looked if he’s got back little bit of pace its even better for him,” he concluded.
