Preparation for NZ ODIs to be hurried: Rhodes

Lastnewsbd, 24th January, Dhaka: Rhodes is having a close eye at BPL during the time which he could’ve spent as holidays. The Englishman is concerned about the ‘ideal’ preparation for New Zealand but positive about BPL. “Let’s keep that quiet from the New Zealanders that we’ve been playing on these wickets,” he stated. “It is far from ideal preparation, the way that we go straight from the BPL into ODIs in New Zealand. But what can we do about it? This tournament is a fantastic tournament, it needed fitting in, and it was the only slot available. We understand that, [those of us] involved in the national team, and we’ll deal with that.” The three-match ODI series will begin from February 13. This will be followed by Test series in March. Rhodes is not too fazed on Test build-ups. “We know that the preparation is going to be very rushed for the ODIs against New Zealand but we’ll put up with that and we’ll give it our best shot and try and win the games that are put in front of us. The Test boys are different. They’ve got a little bit longer to prepare and acclimatise in New Zealand, so that shouldn’t be a problem,” he added. Bangladesh head coach Steve Rhodes is uncertain if BPL is going to be the absolute preparation for New Zealand tour, which is scheduled right after the ongoing T20 league. The Final of BPL will be played on February 8 while Bangladesh’s warm-up match is slotted for February 10 in Lincoln. This means some of the players from Bangladesh squad will miss the match while the players whose teams will be knocked out, will be able to play the one-dayer.
