Mashrafe attains landslide victory in parliamentary election

Lastnewsbd, 1st January, Dhaka: Mashrafe bagged 274,418 votes as a ruling Awami League candidate for the Narail-2 seat. His nearest rival was the  Jatiya Oikya Front alliance’s Fariduzzaman Farhad. But the chairman of NPP bagged only 7,883 votes with the ‘paddy sheaf’ symbol. The result of the election announced on Sunday night after the daylong voting. Total votes of the Narail-2 constituency is 317, 844. Mashrafe’s share amounts to over 96 percent. After winning the poll, Mashrafe has now become the second national cricket team captain after Naimur Rahman Durjoy to become an MP. However, Mashrafe is the first current player to achieve the honour and Durjoy became the MP after retiring from cricket. The Bangladesh skipper collected the nomination form of Awami League on 11 November and subsequently he was awarded the nomination by the ruling party. And he became the first-ever sitting cricketer to try hand in the national politics. Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, the ODI captain of Bangladesh has won a seat in the 11th parliament by a huge margin. The much-awaited results have been published and Mashrafe, who was a candidate for the Narail-2 seat has won the election with a huge margin. Mashrafe’s team-mate and the number one all-rounder in the world Shakib Al Hasan was also set to participate in the election, but in the end he backed off.
