BSEC developing infrastructural facilities in Bangladesh

Lastnewsbd, 27th November, Dhaka: Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation (BSEC) is a government owned corporation in Bangladesh. Bangladesh Steel & Engineering Corporation is established with the objective to contribute to the development of infrastructural facilities of the country, create the base for industrial growth, make human and material movement faster and easier, and help utilize sea and river transportation system. Bangladesh Steel & Engineering Corporation Initially started functioning with 62 (sixty two) enterprises. Afterward BSEC established one industry named Bangladesh Blade Factory Ltd. (BBFL) in 1984. It was formed by the amalgamation of the then Bangladesh Steel Mills Corporation and Bangladesh Engineering & Shipbuilding Corporation under Bangladesh Industrial Enterprises (Nationalization, 2nd Amendment) Ordinance, 1976. Honorable Additional Secretary to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Mr. Mizanur Rahman joined Bangladesh Steel & Engineering Corporation (BSEC) as Chairman on 28 February 2018. The four Directors of BSEC are Mr. Narayan Chandra Devnath (Commercial), Mr. Anis UL Haque Bhuiyan (Production & Engineering), Mr. Anis UL Haque Bhuiyan (Finance) Additional Charge, Md. Ashiqur Rahman (Planning & Development). BSEC has a vision of Filling internal demand and globalization of the engineering products.

Presently BSEC has only 9 (nine) industrial enterprises in operation amongst which 49% shares of 3 (three) enterprises viz, Atlas Bangladesh Ltd., National Tubes Ltd. &  Eastern Cables Ltd. have been offloaded  to the general public and employees of the respective companies. Enterprises under Bangladesh Steel & Engineering Corporation are ATLAS Bangladesh Ltd (ABL), Bangladesh Blade Factory Ltd. (BBFL), Eastern Cables Ltd. (ECL), Eastern Tubes Ltd. (ETL), Gazi Wires Ltd. (GWL), General Electric Manufacturing Company Ltd. (GEMCO), National Tubes Ltd. (NTL), Pragoti Industries Ltd. (PIL), DACCA Steel Works Ltd. (DSWL). They all have been playing an important role in the economic development of the country as they produce Electric Cables, Transformers, Tube Light, and Super Enamelled Copper Wire etc. and thereby contribute substantially to electrification of the country. BSEC has also contributed to the road transport sector since it has been assembling Bus, Truck, Jeep, Motor Cycle, Mishuk etc. Enterprises of BSEC also produce MS/GI/API Pipe and Safety Razor Blade. In the financial year 2017-2018 BSEC enterprises produced goods worth Tk.672.40 crore and sold goods worth of Tk.864.13 crore while enables to earn net profit (Before Tax) of Tk.73.67 crore. BSEC also paid TK.277.67 crore to the National Exchequer as VAT & Taxes.

Atlas Bangladesh Ltd. started business in 1966 with Honda Motor Company Limited, Japan under private ownership. In 1972 after independence of Bangladesh ABL was nationalized and placed under Bangladesh Steel & Engineering Corporation (BSEC), Ministry of Industries. ABL started business with Hero Honda since 1993. In The Year 2010 Honda, japan and Hero Honda Dissolved Their Partnership. At present ABL is operation his business with ZONGSHEN motorcycle company, China. Now Honda, japan and Hero, India are operating their business separately by establishing their own company. Recently they did MOU agreement between Atlas Bangladesh Ltd. and TVS Auto Bangladesh Ltd.

Bangladesh Blade Factory Ltd was established in 1981 along with technically collaborations of M/S Wilkinson Sword Co. of England for producing international standard double edge stainless steel razor blade. At present, the company’s product is Double Edge Razor Blades as well as Disposable RazorsThe plans for preparing the blades have been adopted.

Eastern Cables Ltd. at present manufactures various type and sizes of domestic, control, flexible and power PVC cables of continuous permissible service voltage up to 12 KV and having cross-sectional area up to 1000 mm2 following mainly the latest German standards, VDE 0271/3.69 and B.S. 6004:1975, moreover, to meet the demand from home and abroad Eastern Cables Ltd. manufactures domestic cables following old British Imperial Standard B.S. 2004 also. It was established in 1967.

Before the period of liberation, According to Company Act established a registered limited company in October 23, 1964 named Eastern Tubes Limited at 374, Tejgaon Industrial Area, Dhaka with the technical collaboration of Toshiba Corporation, Japan with its one acre of land area. This organization started its commercial operation in August, 1972. East Tubes Limited (ETL) 100% government-owned industries run by the Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation (BSEC) under the Ministry of industries.

GAZI WIRES LIMITED (GWL), an enterprise of BANGLADESH STEEL & ENGINNRING CORPORATION, Ministry of Industries, Government of Bangladesh is the pioneer and the biggest manufacturer of Enamelled Round Copper Winding Wire (ex-name was Super Enamelled Coper Wires) in Bangladesh which was established in the year 1965 in the private sector with technical collaboration of the world renowned “THE FURUKAWA ELECTRIC COMPANY” TOKYO, JAPAN. It produces Super Enamelled Coper Wires from SWG 12 to 46, Annealed Copper Wires from SWG 10 to 46 and Hard Drawn Bare Copper Wire of size SWG 1 to 46. GWL obtained BSTI certificate in 1979 and ISO 9001 certificate in 2002.

General Electric Manufacturing Company Limited (GEMCO), an enterprise of Bangladesh Steel & Engineering Corporation under Ministry of Industries (GOB), was established in 1978 for production of different capacities Distribution and Power Transformer along with other Electrical Equipment’s to cater the full demand of the country. GEMCO is now manufacturing and supplying a major portion of Electrical Distribution equipment’s required by the power sector of the country. GEMCO has already stamped its mark significantly through its products and services by maintaining highest degree of quality and technical standard.

National Tubes Limited is first & largest pipe manufacturing company in Bangladesh, was established in 1964 in the private sector. It was nationalized and placed under Bangladesh Steel & Engineering Corporation (BSEC) in 1972. It is the only Government owned steel pipe producer in Bangladesh. The factory situated on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway on 14.31. acre land at 131-142 Tongi Industrial Area- 20 km north of the capital city of Bangladesh.

Pragoti Industries Limited (PIL) is a well reputed Govt. organization for its pioneering role in the transport sector of Bangladesh. Since its inception in 1966 it has assembled and marketed more than 50,000 vehicles such as cars, Jeeps, Buses, Trucks, Pickup, Ambulance, Tractors etc. of multiple models by importing CKD(Complete Knocked Down ) kits. Factory is located on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Barabkund, Sitakund, which is only 30 Km faraway from port city Chittagong and established on 25 Acres of land with the capacity of 2000 Vehicles in a single shift per year. Factory is well equipped with the all essential machineries and equipment’s for Fabrication, Assembling, Body Building, Painting, Inspecting and testing of automotive. In the coming years, the company is planning to be a Progressive Manufacturing Company of Auto-mobiles.
