Leopard killed as it attacks mayor

Locals have beaten a leopard to death as it critically injured the newly elected mayor of the district`s Shreebardi municipality.

The mayor, Abu Sayed, was first taken to Shreebardi Hospita from where he was referred to Sherpur District Hospital in critical state.

Sources said the leopard came out from the frontier Garo hill and took shelter in a jungle of Jalkata area. Informed, Shreebardi mayor, also Awami League leader, went to the jungle area.

`The leopard swooped on him coming out from a water pump house while he passing it. Locals rescued him and took to the hospital, sources said.

Locals the furious people gave the leopard good beating leaving it dead on the spot, they added.

Hundreds of people of the locality and neighborhoods gather the scene to visit the leopard.

Confirming the incident, S. Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shreebardi Police Station, said the leopard hita looks to be 4 to 4.5 feet long.
