BTRC guides to stop 3G, 4G services

Lastnewsbd, 29th December, Dhaka: Thursday, BTRC ordered suspension of 3G and 4G data services but later withdrew the directive after about 10 hours. Meanwhile, Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) general secretary Imdadul Haque told a Bangla online newspaper, “We (ISPAB) did not get any instruction yet on internet. So, we can assume broadband internet will be available.” He said that broadband internet should not be shut down because business and official communication will be disrupted as a result of the suspension.  There are as many as 60 lakh broadband internet users across the country.  Mobile internet services 3G and 4G were shut down on Saturday following an instruction by the telecom regulatory commission ahead of the Sunday’s election. The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) ordered the mobile phone operators to stop 3G and 4G services. The services would be unavailable from 3:00pm Saturday to Sunday midnight, quoting BTRC Senior Assistant Director (Media) Jakir Hossain Khan, reports UNB.
