Apan Jewellers owner Dildar’s son Shafat gets bail

Lastnewsbd, 2nd December, Dhaka: Judge Khademul Kayes of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 passed the order on Thursday after hearing on his bail petition. Court sources said Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court’s chief public prosecutor Abdullah Abu and the concerned court’s public prosecutor Afroza Farhana Ahmed stood for the state while Kazi Nojibullah Hiru represented the accused during the hearing. Admitting about the bail order, Afroza Farhana Ahmed said: “The court granted bail for Shafat after hearing on his bail petition in the case.” On June 8, last year, Inspector Ismot Ara Ame of Women Support and Investigation Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, also the investigating officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet against five accused including Shafat Ahmed. Of the five accused, Shafat Ahmed and Nayem Ashraf were indicted for rape while three others Shadman Sakif, Shafat’s driver Billal Hossain and bodyguard Rahmat Ali for assisting in the rape. A Dhaka court granted bail to Shafat Ahmed, the son of Dildar Ahmed, one of the owners of Apan Jewellers in a case filed on charges of raping two private university students in a posh hotel in the capital’s Banani. Earlier in January, another accused in the case, Rahamat Ali, security guard of Shafat Ahmed, secured bail from the High Court in the case. On March 15, another accused Billal Hossain received bail from the Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2. According to the case, invited to Shafat’s birthday party on March 28, last year, the two girls went to the Raintree Dhaka hotel in Banani around 9:00pm. After the rooftop party ended around midnight, two out of five accused raped the girls in two hotel rooms. Shafat, son of one of the owners of Apan Jewellers, is the main accused in the case. One of the rape victims filed a case with Banani Police Station on May 6 accusing the five people. Following the rape allegation, law enforcers arrested the five accused from Dhaka and Sylhet. Of them, Shafat, Nayem, Sakif and Billal gave confessional statements before magistrates on different dates.
