From Rajshahi ‘militant hideout’ Bombs, arms rescued



Lastnewsbd, 12th May, Dhaka: A team of Crime Investigation Department (CID) reached the spot on Friday for conducting an investigation. Earlier, the law enforcers, including a bomb disposal unit, resumed their operation codenamed ‘Sun Devil’ at the ‘militant after a brief suspension on Friday morning. Several rounds of gunshots were heard during the drive. A Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) reached the spot on Thursday night for recovering explosives and the bodies of the ‘militants’ killed during the operation at the den on Thursday. Police recovered 11 bombs, one pistol, two magazines from ‘militant hideout’ in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi, said Hifjur Alam Munsi, officer-in-charge of Godagari police station.  No one was found alive or dead at Matikata ‘militant hideout’ during operation on second day, said Sumit Chowdhury, additional superintendent of Rajshahi Special Branch police. “There are four rooms in the house and no one was found there,” said Sumit.

Five suspected militants, including a woman, and a firefighter were killed in ‘suicide blasts’ and gunshots fired by ‘militants’ as law enforcers raided the militant hideout on Thursday morning. The firefighter is Abdul Matin, 45, while four of the ‘militants’ were house owner Sazzad Hossain, 50, his wife Beli Begum, 40, son Al Amin, 25 and daughter Karima Khatun, 17. Meanwhile, the unidentified militant who was also killed on Thursday, was identified as Ashraful, a resident of Sadar upazila in Chapainawabganj district. During the raid, police rescued two children Jubayer and Apiya from the house, said Hibjur Alam Munshi, officer-in-charge (OC) of Godagari Police Station. They are now in police custody. Later, the law enforcers postponed the operation around 8:00pm on Thursday.
