Shakib doesn’t get respect he deserves: Bhogle
Lastnewsbd, 10th February, Dhaka: In his latest video package, cricket pundit and analyst Harsha Bhogle has described how Shakib happens to be the part of big leagues, yet doesn’t get the proper recognition just because of his identify as a Bangladeshi player. “I have seen a lot of Bangladesh cricket over the years, including back in 1997 in Kualalampur when they had first qualified for the World Cup. And with some honesty and conviction, I can say this (right now) is the best Bangladesh has played since they have started playing international cricket. “I have seen a lot of Bangladesh cricket over the years, including back in 1997 in Kualalampur when they had first qualified for the World Cup. And with some honesty and conviction, I can say this (right now) is the best Bangladesh has played since they have started playing international cricket. “Mushfiqur Rahim is of course an excellent player and a good captain as well, apart from the few shortcomings. But there is one man, standing head and shoulder of all other Bangladeshi players. Obviously Bangladesh have produced some great players over the years, but I am here talking about the best of them all, and he is Shakib Al Hasan. Shakib lives in a completely different league altogether. Look at the major records held by Bangladeshi cricketers, almost all of them belong to Shakib. “But as an all-rounder, he just stands apart. How good is Shakib? In all the Test matches Shakib has played, he has contributed 14.82% of Bangladesh’s runs and taken 28.85 of their wickets. Among the all-rounders with at least 1500 runs and 150 wickets, only Gary Sobers (15.52%) has scored more runs and Richard Hadley (34.34%) has taken more wickets for their teams. That’s a staggering record for any cricketer. “Had Shakib not been a Bangladeshi player I know I am going to raise a few eyebrows here and there, but let me say this had Shakib been a player of any other team, the cricket world would have looked at him very, very differently. Now way this man gets the recognition he truly deserves, and that’s an irony for every single cricket lover.”
Shakib Al Hasan is unarguably the best player that Bangladesh has ever produced. There have been some more good and great players over the years, but the ace all-rounder named Shakib is totally a standout player in all sense. But not only just as a Bangladesh player, if one goes through his numbers and statistics, he or she must admit Shakib is also one of the greatest of all time in the entire history if the game. But does Shakib get the honour he deserves? Does the cricket world recognize him in tthe way they really should do? There may be different opinions from different people, but there’s one man to whom both the answers come with a big ‘No’.
