Chittagong Vikings starts season with a Win



Lastnewsbd, 8th November, Dhaka: Chasing the moderate target of 161 runs through by the Chittagong Vikings was never been easy for the Comilla Victorians’ batsmen. Imrul Kayes, though has been running superb form with the bat in the national team, could not stand longer than scoring 6 runs for his franchise team. Caribbean hard hitter Marlon Samules started well hit 3 fours and a six in his 18 ball knock Samules departed scoring 23 runs.

After a long four days of delay due to inclement weather condition, the fourth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) has at last kicked off on Tuesday (today) with the match between defending champion Comilla Victorians and Chittagong Vikings. In the first match Chittagong Vikings defeated Comilla Victorians by 29 runs as the Victorians were bundled out at the score of 132 runs in their 20 overs. They lost 8 wickets. All the Chittagong Vikings bowlers were more or less successful in their approach; picked up regular wickets of the opponent hence four of the Victorians’ batsmen lost their wickets in one digit before the team reached hundred run marks.

Late order batsman Al Amin dogged up in the crease with Nazmul Hossain Shanto, stood up for the highest partnership of the Comilla Victorians’ innings; together they put 30 runs in the 7th wicket. Victorians’ hopes of any magical recovery however diminished with the departure of Al – Amin who lost his wicket scoring 14 (18 balls) and immediately after that Comilla Victorians lost their 8th wicket also. Sohail Tanvir got out for a duck. Middle order batsman Nazmul Hossain Shanto put up a brave show for his team; Shanto bestowed a knock of 54 runs (44 balls) and remained unbeaten at the end of the innings.

In the first exhibition, Comilla Victorians’ captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza won the toss and opted to field first. Towering upon a zippy half century by opener Tamim Iqbal, Chittagong Vikings stored a handsome amount of 161 runs by losing only 3 wickets on the board in their allotted 20 overs. Tamim Iqbal knocked off 54 runs in his 38 ball innings; he hit 6 fours along with 2 sixes with a strike rate of 142. His Caribbean counterpart Dwayne Smith was fragile, lost his wicket at 9, leaving one down Anamul Haque Bijoy and Tamim Iqbal on the show. Anamul Bijoy scored 22 runs with 2 fours all the way; both Tamim Iqbal and Anamul Haque were run out. The only successful bowler of Comilla Victorians was Imad Wasim who took the wicket of Dwayne Smith. Vikings’ Pakistani recruit Shoaib Malik was brilliant in his approach during unbeaten 42 runs (28 balls; 4×2, 6×2). Jahurul Islam accompanied well with a not out 29 run innings.
